The naming of the software certainly gets to the point, but it may have been unfortunate in that it gives many an impression that is not true. This is a sophisticated solution that has the advanced features that a retail business needs.

Not only can you process and record sales, you can control your stock. You will see when new stock has to be ordered and have a number of built-in vendor management controls as well. Users can create invoices and even handle quarterly and annual auditing. Tax rates are automatically calculated based on your location, and it can even check if a customer has enough credit to make a purchase. You can also record customer contact information and use that for newsletters and the like.

Free POS Software even offers support for mobile devices. Run it on a smartphone or tablet or multiple mobile devices as well as desktop PCs and laptops. The program supports syncing across all of those installations. That means that you can finalize a sale using your smartphone and have all of the information synced with the main PC that you use as your cash register.

The biggest issue with Free POS Software and one that makes it difficult to recommend is that it is no longer supported. The free POS software space eventually became very competitive and SAT Solutions determine it no longer had enough share to make development worthwhile. The lack of support was exacerbated with the release of Windows 10. There are compatibility issues, and while you can get it to work in compatibility, it is likely more of a hassle than the average business wants to deal with.
